It will be held on Saturday 28 May in Santutxu and will be free of charge.

The streets of Santutxu will host a total of 23 artists: Samantha Hudson, Aviador Dro, Albany and Sex Museum, Potato, Kokoshca, Maria Escarmiento, Borrokan or La Élite among others. This year we celebrate the fourth edition of Hirian in Santutxu, the prelude to the festival that each year brings culture and diversity to a neighbourhood of the Biscayan capital.

Hirian, ‘in the city’ in Basque, will turn the streets and squares of this emblematic neighbourhood into an asphalt party for one day with an avant-garde, eclectic and open to all tastes musical programme.

ALBANY

Born in Girona, raised in Granada, and currently based in Madrid, Albany has spent several years carving out her niche on the new scene. With songs that celebrate sadness and some of the best lyrics of her generation, she has won over the most experimental audiences. With no musical barriers and lots of experience behind, she wears her heart on her sleeve as she welcomes us into her reality. 

ÇANTAMARTA

ÇANTAMARTA

Çantamarta was founded in 2018 by a Colombian-Venezuelan and two Andalusians who have embraced a wide-ranging musical soundscape combining R&B, Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop and House, among other genres, influenced by the cultural and musical elements of the Latin American Caribbean. Not to be missed at Hirian 2022, where the sounds of Bilbao BBK Live seep into the city of Bilbao.

GAZZI

GAZZI

GAZZI is a young producer and DJ from Linares (Andalusia). As a producer, he explores and experiments with glitchy rhythms, infused with wistful melodies and bright, titillating atmospheres. At times walking the line between ambient and dance, Gazzi has created a unique style combining nostalgia and eclectic sounds. His beats will fill the streets on May 28 in Bilbao.

L´HAINE

L´HAINE

Logroño-born, Madrid-based musician L’haine is influenced mainly by Canadian R&B and rap. He also draws inspiration from cinema, a recurring theme in his music. After releasing a mixtape, several successful singles including ‘Thriller’ and ‘Habanera,’ and his debut album PATAGONIA, L’haine is ready to perform live in May in Bilbao as part of the Hirian programme.

MDA

Mda is championing the exciting new wave of music, known for his command and delivery of verses with colorful vocal textures that go hand in hand with his multifaceted style as he runs the gamut from trap to hyper-pop to digicore all infused with his personal trademark, which he will be bringing to Bilbao for the first time as part of Hirian’s program on May 28.

POTATO

POTATO

Only a handful of working bands are as long-serving as Potato. With 12 albums under their belt, Potato pioneered ska-reggae on the domestic scene, and have pushed the boundaries of the genre to hone their style into what they call a “Punky Party Reggae band.” Their signature combination of good music and spunk will be on show at Hiran. Save the date: it’s time for the perfect Punky Party on May 28!

SAMURAÏ

SAMURAÏ

Samuraï is a singer-songwriter from Madrid who, despite her young age, has gained a firm foothold in the urban music scene in Spain. Her sounds have inched their way into the most popular playlists in Spain and Latin America. Considered one of the most promising acts in the new wave of pop and urban music, $amuraï has worked with Mumbai Moon, Sule B and Deva, among other artists. 

YUNG PRADO

YUNG PRADO

Yung Prado is part of Mainline, the leading collective on the electronic music scene in Barcelona. He has released music via international labels including MMODEMM Frankfurt and Young Ethics (Dj Seinfeld). His “Qué Pasa? EP” has been featured in large events such as Boiler Room x Telekom Electronic Beats Budapest 2020 and played on the prestigious NTS Radio London. Now he’s coming to Bilbao. No style no rules at Hirian.

AVIADOR DRO

AVIADOR DRO

Aviador Dro is short for El Aviador Dro y sus Obreros Especializados, the band led by Servando Carballar (aka Biovac, the only original member still in the band). Formed in Madrid in 1979, their sound is heavily influenced by Kraftwerk and Devo. Spearheaded by Biovac, Aviador Dro continue to pioneer the electronic music scene in Spain after several changes in band members.

Nil Roig (aka Yung Prado) and David Burgués formed La Élite inspired by 80s punk, new wave, and electronic sounds with beatboxes and synths. Their latest singles are “Bailando” and “Nuit Folle.” La Élite is punk, La Élite is pop, La Élite scratches an itch we didn’t know we had, La Élite is just what we needed, and La Élite will be performing at Hirian on May 28 to show the world what La Élite is all about.

HOFE x 4:40 are singer Igotz Méndez (HOFE) and producers Xabier Lafuente and Marcos Galech (4:40). Inspired by industrial cityscapes, street style and hip-hop culture, the artistic symbiosis of this group is based on revamping the sounds of the 2000s using digital instruments and synths, infused with the ideas, frustrations and situations that impact their generation at present.

Sometimes extraordinary things happen right before our eyes. What makes The Limboos extraordinary is their ability to deliver R&B with a sound of their own. Furthermore, their knowledge of and devotion to the masters of the genre resonate in each of their self-composed tracks. They have a rare gift: they can combine rhythm and style in spades.

Three young musicians with strong solo careers will join forces for this show. Denso brings the music, and Tatta and Mutiko deliver the vocals.They are starting to make waves with their hit “Volar,” and continue to hone a new sound as they grow their fanbase.

Founder of the CHICA collective and member of CHICA GANG, this DJ has been quickening the pulse since 2017 with electronic beats inspired by sounds of the most underground clubs. Bringing emotions to the dancefloor, she has visited clubs such Nitsa, Razzmatazz, Dabadaba and Teatro Eslava, performed two Boiler Rooms, with Danny L Harle, Casual Gabberz, Isabella Lovestory, Dinamarca and Dorian Electra, among others.

Sex Museum were five teenagers who were into 1960s culture and punk energy when they formed a band in the summer of 1985. Over the course of their career, they have embarked on a number of tours, and they certainly come into their own on stage. They are admired and revered for their musicianship, intense lyrics, boundless energy, and their one-of-a-kind sound that makes them unmistakable and unique.

They’ve been in the business for 15 years, performing over 700 shows around the world. Experimental music duo ZA! are currently working on their busiest project to date. The new ensemble features La MegaCobla, Tarta Relena and ZA! These three elements join forces to portray their unique approach to Mediterranean music seasoned with a good pinch of distortion. A retrofuturist journey from folk to free via the Mediterranean.

Pushing the boundaries of music in Euskera since the late 90s, Borrokan have always aimed to experiment with the genres they enjoy: hardcore, noise and post-punk. Borrokan masterfully use silence, rhythm changes, noise, and bangs, all fine-tuned to precision to channel meaning into their sound. Hirian suits them to a tee: they’ll be performing on the street, near the crowds.

Euskoprincess is a 23-year-old artist from Hernani (Gipuzkoa) who broke into the music scene after the pandemic with her debut single ‘Lehendakari’ alongside DJ and producer Rivers Z. A year down the line, she recently debuted her first mixtape ‘Hollywood Star-System,’ packed with old school influences, dembow and hyperpop. Catch her live in Hirian this year.

Kokoshca have become one of the most surprising and unique bands on the domestic rock panorama. Always breaking new ground, exploring different formulas to write precise, sharp songs with a distinct personality, this band from Pamplona portray a country that is twisted, absurd, and traditional which we will be able to discover on 28 May in Bilbao’s Santutxu neighbourhood.

In Maria Escarmiento’s world you dance out breakups, heartache is empowering, moxie is shared with girlfriends, and sex is not powerplay. Her sound is like reggaeton, but not that type of reggaeton. Step by step, María Escarmiento has paved a unique way to her first EP Sintiéndolo Mucho, which she will be showcasing on May 28 at Hirian.

Hailing from Granada, their live show relies on an unconventional blend of electronica and catchy lyrics, combining genres and creating a strong link between music and fun. The five band members —Kuaho, Killmiya, Robzzz, Cristina Aspirina and VAN17INO6— will be joined by Glenda (performer) and David Clean (speaker) as PLASAPORROS bring their unique style to Hirian.

Samantha Hudson loves to make fun of “modern” society, focusing her anger and tongue-in-cheek humor on issues such as homophobia and discrimination, capitalism and consumerism, religion and sexism… Her sharp lyrics and firecracker energy come to life on stage to the beat of classic electroclash sounds, dembow and reggaeton, trance and hyperpop. Bilbao won’t know what hit it.

Local DJ Tronis has worked with collectives that have been very active in the post-pandemic era.

He favors cutting-edge club sounds from breakbeat to footwork influenced by his passion for Jamaican music.
