This edition is commited to sustainability
In an effort to reduce the festival’s impact on the environment, the Organization is taking such measures as implementing reusable cups, increasing the number of waste disposal points with recycling bins, promoting the official app to reduce the use of paper, and going cashless in lieu of manufacturing festival tokens.
The Bilbao BBK Live works with suppliers with integrated environmental management systems and is Erronka Garbia certified, which recognizes those events integrating measures into their design and organization to minimize potential adverse impact on the environment. The festival has also worked closely with Ihobe, the Public Society of the Basque Government, whose purpose is to aid the Basque Government in developing its environmental policy and spreading the culture of environmental sustainability in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country.
Among other sustainability measures, the festival has adopted a “kilometer zero” contracting policy, prioritizing local suppliers from Bilbao and Biscay. Over 3,600 people work to make the Bilbao BBK Live happen, 72% of them Biscayan. Fifty percent of the festival’s suppliers operate out of Biscay.
Bilbao BBK Live will feature an awareness campaign directed at festivalgoers, consisting once again this year of reusable cups and separate bins for different types of waste distributed throughout the premises. A “green team” of volunteers will also be working to keep the festivalgrounds litter-free and looking after the Kobetamendi park so that both festivalgoers and Bilbao residents can continue enjoying it in the future.
